In order to expand my knowledge on the Cold War
Postwar - Tony Judt. This contains so much information that blew my mind. Jews lived in concentration camps for years after the fall of Germany?!?! I would say that the first part of the book is illuminating but it gets tedious after the 50's. TMI. I stopped reading halfway through but amazing read.
The Spy and the Traitor - Ben MacIntrye. Best true story about spies (and I've read them all). Specifically perfect for newbies because it goes into detail about aspects of spy lingo and overall strategy (ie. cutouts, false-flag, etc). Also includes the the two most damaging spies to both US and USSR. Must read!
The Years of Lyndon Johnson - Robert A Caro. This one caught me off guard. The unexpected President had more to do with how the Cold War was shaped then probably any other president. Long but, like the above two, very well written.
