How far would I be able to go in a history major with a GED?

I don’t know if this would be the right sub to ask on, so if it isn’t, I apologize! I’m currently working on getting my GED. I want to do online course for college in the history category, but I don’t know if I will/could keep up! I know I wanna try to get a bachelors, and after that, maybe further education into it. The main point of my question is though, could one be able to handle with just a GED diploma?

No one's aptitude is the same, and no one's public school degree (GED or otherwise) grants exactly the same preparation as anyone else's degree. It is, consequently, a fact that practically everyone who embarks on a university degree in history has gaps and will need to fill those gaps - often with a little extra work.

My writing was horrible, for example, and it took some special attention to address that issue. Someone else might have been proficient at writing, but lacked the understanding of world history that I had managed to acquire before arriving at the university. Everyone is different.

The key thing that you will need to address within yourself is how much you want a thing and how hard you are willing to work for it. If earning a degree in history is something you want, you will find the path that you need to take - and you will follow it. The question isn't so much about preparation, but rather it is about the urgency of your desire.

Best wishes for your journey!

I can't speak for getting a degree with a GED, but I can suggest to anyone looking to get credit and have not taken their general requirements to:

TAKE LOTS OF CLEPS!

High schools don't tell you about them. Colleges don't tell you about them, but they are highly adversited in the military.

Essentially you pay $90 to collegeboard, the same people who do the SATs, and you take a test. if you score high enough, a 50 on a scale of 20-70 (so half) for most of them then you are awarded a transfer credit FOR A SEMESTER LONG (16 week) CLASS that most major colleges and community colleges will accept. You do not even need A GED I believe to take these tests and the transfer credit does not expire. I personally tested out of nearly a year of classes and didn't have to waste time, money and brainpower on classes I didn't care about, and on top of that I took several CLEPs that worked towards my degree.

I do not work for collegeboard, but I cannot stress these highly enough to anyone I meet interested in going to college because it makes everything easier.

I did it. Once you've got your GED which is proving you have the basic requirements of education? No one knows unless you tell them. It's invisible. So study hard and you'll be fine.

When it comes to internships and jobs? I often found my GED pleased the interviewers because it is proven via a test I learned. I found 0 hesitation regaring my GED. You can still achieve honors in college. See it as a fresh start. You'll be far from the only person with a GED also.
