Books on Politics/ Live of Napoleon

by Kottolores

The title should be pretty self-explanatory. Unfortunately, most biographies I find focus quite a lot on his campaigns, but I already know quite a bit about these.

I was more interested in his domestic policy in France, regarding economic policy (i read he tried to stimulate a french industrial revolution), law making and general rule. Another thing I’d like to know about is his private life. So starting from young napoleon all the way to his court.

Many thanks!

Can’t go past Napoleon the Great by Andrew Roberts

Fantastically written, and focuses on domestic and economic policies as well as his constitutional and political reforms (both in France and occupied countries). The book also gets into his private life with his childhood and relationships with his family, wife and mistresses. Naturally there is also a key focus on the military campaigns, but the book is fairly balanced and wholistic.
