While this is subjective in terms of an "all" statement. It does exist in literature and history of peoples pining for some romantic era. As it is there is an era of romanticism that arose of living in a idealized past.

Lord Byron for example, is famed for supporting Greek independence not necessarily for Greek independence, but for the fantasy of classical Greek democracies of old. He and many foreigners fought for the Greek independence from the Ottomans.
