The Arabic SLM is often thought to have transferred over from Sumerian, but there is no real proof and it is probably just a coincidence. Sumerian is a language isolate, meaning it is not proven to be related to any other known language. Sumerian and Akkadian existed in close proximity to each other and shared much with each other, creating a shared language/culture area called a sprachbund. But neither of them is related to Arabic, which is in the Semitic branch of languages and completely separate.
