Before women were considered their own persons (say, Victorian London), who would inherent assets if there was only an unmarried, female individual left?

It's not quite accurate that women were historically "not considered their own persons". There have been many, many places and times where women's rights were restricted in various ways, but I'm not sure there are any where all women were simply enslaved from birth.
