I saw a video today on Instagram claiming that the Bering Land Bridge theory of immigration into the Americas was disproven by bones found predating the theory’s timeline. I’m obviously... skeptical because I’ve been taught this theory for years. Does anyone know if this claim has any truth to it? If so, how did humans really end up in the Americas?
Here is an answer to a very similar question that I prepared a couple of years ago. In short, the answer is no, the route into North America from Asia was via Beringia. There has been debate on where the route went once it got to North America, whether it followed the coast or an "Ice Free Corridor" east of the Rockies. The thinking now is that it likely followed the coast but there are still adherents to the Ice Free Corridor theory.
There is a very small minority that argue for multi-regionalism - that the human ancestors of Native Americans evolved in the New World. There is no science supporting that position, however.
If you have further questions, I will try to answer them.
