Argentina Economic History Book

by Bikeracken

I'm really struggling to find a good history of Argentina in English. My ideal history would:

- Focus on economics

- Ideally have an update for Macri's time in office

- Be in English

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

If you're looking for a general history of Argentina with a focus on economic issues, especially political economy and state policy, Colin Lewis' Argentina: A Short History is good. Carlos Diaz-Alejandro's Essays on the Economic History of the Argentine Republic is a classic, though published in 1970, which is a very long time ago in economic history terms, and will not even tell you about the crises of the 70s and 80s, let alone Macri. Gerardo della Paolera and Alan Taylor's A New Economic History of Argentina is an edited volume, and therefore irritatingly expensive and not really a front-to-back read, but it is the state of the art from the early 2000s. I think a lot of good work has been done since, but for a dive into that, you'd need Spanish.

Cavallo’s newest book, the title is super long, but it goes through all of Argentine economics and a little history and is very good
