Today:
Welcome to this week's instalment of /r/AskHistorians' Sunday Digest (formerly the Day of Reflection). Nobody can read all the questions and answers that are posted here, so in this thread we invite you to share anything you'd like to highlight from the last week - an interesting discussion, an informative answer, an insightful question that was overlooked, or anything else.
Spare a moment this December for those interesting, yet overlooked questions that still cry out for the attention of an expert. Feel free to post your own, or other questions that caught your eye yet remain unanswered.
Its nearly a new year AH’ers, but the awesome answers just keep on coming! Grab a holiday beverage of your choice, and settle down for another incredible edition of the Digest! Don’t forget to thank all those hard working writers and contributors and upvote those answers. Its such a small thing, but makes such a big difference!
As per our usual, check out some cool weekly features before diving into the wealth of threads below!
/u/DrMarjorieGehrhardt joined us for an AMA for Disability History Month. Ask Me Anything about the history of disability, facial differences, and disfigured combatants from WW1.
I’m shouting it out again, but everyone should check out AskHistorians 2020 Holiday Book Recommendation Thread: Give a little gift of History!

And thus we come to a close once again. We’ve got just one more digest before 2021 hits, so lets fill the week with more fascinating questions, awesome answers and good cheer to end things off with!
It's that time of week again! You know, when we take a look at the wilder side of /r/AskHistorians. That's right, it's time for "The Real Questions", where I shout out some of the unique, oddly specific, atypical, amusingly phrased, or otherwise interesting questions of the week, the ones that make me say "Finally, someone is asking the real questions."
Wasn't it weird how last week we went from Saturday straight into Monday, and so there was no Sunday Digest? What a bizarre anomaly. But it's the only explanation for why I never shared anything last week - certainly not like I just forgot to do it on Sunday (especially after two weeks about talking about how close I was to doing so). Nope, it was definitely a strange calendar phenomenon, but because of that I've got two weeks' worth of Real Questions this time.
Below are my entries for this week - questions with a ‡ have a link to an older thread. What do you think were the realest questions? And be sure to check out my full list of Real Questions.
