I am looking for an accurate and comprehensive (or as close as possible) non-fiction book on the Harlem Renaissance. I am not looking from fiction works based on the movement or fiction book that came out of the movement. I am looking for a historical overview of the movement, from the birth of it tot he end.
Thanks in advance!
The Harlem Renaissance impacted music, literature, art, and culture at large and is still a relatively new moment in American history. There are not a large number of comprehensive looks at the period as you describe.
I Too Sing America: The Harlem Renaissance at 100 by Wil Haywood et al (Rizzoli Electa, 2018) is the best one I’ve read.
There are many other books addressing various specific facets of the period, such as music, literature, art, etc.
