Were claymores a stupid weapon to wield? The tactics for using them seem kind of suicidal

I’ve consumed plenty of movies and shows where brave highlanders charge the enemy with two handed broadswords. This seems dumb? Or at least a recipe for lots of casualties. On wikipedia it mentions the Jacobite uprising saw high casualties amongst frontline soldiers and leaders.

Well, there's your problem right there. It may well be a very, very long time before popular media has an accurate representation of combat - and to be fair, media representation has concerns that real combat doesn't. What makes a real fight does not necessarily make for a good book/TV show/movie/game/other. That aside, if anyone would like to address the matter of claymore usage, please don't hesitate to do so! More posts are always welcome. For the meantime, OP, you may find interesting u/wotan_weevil's breakdown on the employment of the greatsword; it's not quite the Scottish claymore specifically, but they're the same weapon in essence.
