Does anyone have a reference for the section of Herodotus where he says that the Spartans always sought to put down tyrannies in the 6th century? Thanks
To my knowledge, Herodotos does not say this. The claim is made by Thucydides and later fleshed out by Plutarch. I've discussed the tradition and its historical background here.
