Is there any information about what is carved on the tops of the pyramids? Maybe info on what happened to the capstone before the carvings?

I've seen a video about a specific signature on top of the Great Pyramid but am curious about others. Photos don't show up close or translate what I can't see. Since we are here, the capstones have plenty of theories about them. Thank you Google dosen't have anything on the inscriptions.

There are quite a few surviving capstones (normally called "pyramidia" by egyptologists), but I don't remember there being anything especially remarkable about Khufu's pyramidion (the builder of the Great Pyramid). I'm not even sure that I've seen it or that it even survives to the present day. If it does, I can certainly help you to read what is inscribed on it, but I haven't been able to find a good photograph.

The best pyramidion we have is that of Amenemhat III, which was^1 in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. These carvings are of the very highest quality found in Egyptian inscriptions, and they are almost perfectly preserved. They don't say anything particularly interesting unfortunately. They're the king's names and various standard offering formulae.

Can you say more about what you are trying to figure out? Perhaps with more details I can provide better information.

  1. Presumably it's being moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, but I haven't seen it in a few years so I don't know for sure.
