What was the situation in South American countries during the World War I & II? Were they affected by the wars?

I've read and seen many documentaries on the World Wars but none of them talked about South America. I know South America didn't really take part in the wars but what was the impact of the wars to the south american countries? Were they affected as same as Europe?

I've written about Peru-Ecuador in the past which should be of interest.

Chile/Paraguay/Argentina had some importance during/after WW2 as their dictators were right-winged/very conservative and took in many high ranked Nazi officials and helped them stay undercover. Quite interesting books about that topic available, the Vatican also played a large role in helping nazis and War Criminals flee to south america
