There are a lot of people here that are 10 times more well versed then me in any historical subject than me. I'm especially interested in ancient architecture, like the wonders. How did you get your information?
Reading. Lots and lots of reading - sometimes at first popular scientific texts to get a general idea of the topic and related/ connected areas of study. But in the end it always boils down to scholarly texts, be it books or papers, and published primary sources like memoirs, recollections, autobiographies and edited selected original documents. In the case of professional historians, you could add archive research (unedited primary sources) to the reading list.
