I was thinking about video game ideas and I thought a game that takes place during a war in Polynesia would make a good game which made me realize that despite the fact that I’ve read a lot about Polynesia, I do not know a lot about their warfare.
I’m interested in things like were wars primarily between chiefs or between islands, what were their weapons like, how did they view the concept of war, etc.
I have a couple of older answers on relevant subjects. I don't really know a lot about Island Polynesia, but I've got a few little things: a short story from Tokelau here some stuff about Mangaia (in the Cook Islands) and Tahiti here followed by some stuff on Māori battles and haka (sorry it's pretty poorly structured and edited, but the information should be useful, there's more relevant stuff I've read since, so I might put more down later).
On late 18th and early 19th century Māori warfare I have this answer which is basically a collection of primary sources. I've done a few other bits and pieces that are relevant, like this on named weapons, this on weapon size, and this one on tall people.
