When we talk of modern democracies turning into dictatorships, there is much recorded dissent and resistance like in the cases of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. While comparisons of France of Napolean to these two states are not without problems, were there voices of dissent and the form of ideological warfare which were a staple in Nazi Germany (atleast before Hitler becoming dictator) which were later suppressed by Napolean.

Napoleon is a very popular subject here. There are other threads directly comparing him to Hitler. More answers would be welcome.
