Relevance of slavery being abolished 100 years after the founding of the U.S.

by JediBlight

Slavery was abolished pretty much 100 years after the U.S. was founded. Did this 100 year anniversary play any role in causing the civil war?

Hi, I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but slavery was not abolished 100 years after the founding of the U.S. -- the 13th Amendment was ratified in December of 1865, 89 years after the Declaration of Independence and eight months after Lee's surrender at Appomattox. That said, slavery was absolutely what caused the Civil War; while more can be said about this, hopefully that section of our FAQ may be of some interest to you.
