Hello everyone! I am looking to do a project for which I am writing about the minor axis powers of WW2, namely Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia, as well as any other smaller powers too. I would like to know if you have any recommendations for in-depth reading on these nations and their history during the Second World War. Many thanks!
For Slovakia, I would start with Priest, Politician, Collaborator by James Mace Ward, a biography of Jozef Tiso, the leader of the Slovak state during WWII. It's very well-written and provides a good introduction to what was going on in Slovakia at that time. The Parish Republic by Yeshayahu Jelinek is about Tiso's party, the Slovak People's Party. Also, the book Borders on the Move: Territorial Change and Forced Migration in the Hungarian-Slovak Borderlands, 1938-1948 by Leslie Waters might also be relevant to what you're looking for, although I haven't read it yet.
