What factors prevented the Roosevelt family from forming a political dynasty like that of the Kennedy family? Both were prominent, well-to-do Northeastern families after all, with the Roosevelts having established themselves considerably earlier.

Earl Warren. He defeated James Roosevelt FDR’s oldest in the election for California governor in 1950, and Nelson Rockerfeller defeated his younger brother Franklin for Governor of New York, in his second bid the first being stopped by the Tammy hall boss. For the oyster bay Roosevelt’s the teapot dome scandal of the Harding administration ruined Theodore’s two sons reputations along with Eleanor campaigning against him during his run for governor of New York, Theodore the third. But many did hold some offices, Franklin jr and James both being elected to Congress, Theodore the third was assistant sec. of the navy for Harding and Coolidge, and are a successful politically dynasty but I believe the biggest factor is that the kids were grown during the time the family was in the White House and didn’t attract the same media attention that the Kennedy family did, not that they didn’t have media attention just the public perception of them was different. I didn’t list all the offices held or all the issues that blocked them from attaining higher offices but the Roosevelt’s were a successful political dynasty just not looked upon as the Kennedy’s are.
