A Tough Ask - Scottish History

by cg1032

Is there a book or a series of books that I can read that provides a narrative timeline of Scottish History? I am interested in gaining a broad understanding of the whole of Scottish History and then drilling into specific areas. However, there are very few 'all encompassing' books. I think there can also be a political slant (or claims of political biases) attributed to Scottish history. Any help would be appreciated!

There are plenty of books on the history of Scotland.

Scotland: A short history by Christopher Harvie (2014) - this is a concise book (less than 250 pages) and not larger than a paperback novel.

The New Edinburgh History of Scotland series edited by James E Fraser - this is the most up-to-date general history

The New Penguin History of Scotland: From the Earliest Times to the Present Day edited by R. A. Houston, W. W. J. Knox (2001)

Scotland: A History edited by Jenny Wormald (2005)
