My family roots trace back to the Austro-Hungarian empire, specifically the eastern area. My great-great grandparents moved to Canada in 1922, and I posses a book with information about them. It says my great-great grandfather was born in Liweze Sokal, East Galicia. I know the history of Eastern Galicia, but I’m wondering if Liweze Sokal was a place of significance, or just a random village.
This might be better for the short answers thread, but are you sure about the spelling? There's a Liwcze, which is in Poland now, but it's close to the border with Ukraine, not far from Sokal, and it was certainly in Galicia (at least it was in 1914, when Russian soldiers executed several inhabitants of the village). "Liwcze" could easily become "Liweze" in an OCR error.
