Can you specify what exactly you are referring to with "constant name-changing of samurai?"
After all, as I have recently alluded to elsewhere (see the 2nd half, about the taboo name and the azana and so on), the practice of having multiple names - for one, for different stages in the human lifecycle, for another, at the same time for different social contexts - was not exactly unusual. But it didn't matter much, since those names were not used in everyday affairs anyway.
But either way, I'm not sure to which practice you are referring to, so further elaboration is difficult.
