I'm not sure if that fits into the existing weekly or monthly features, but I think it would be interesting to hear from experts about the new releases periodically.
Hi there! Thanks for the suggestion, and sorry for the slow reply - looks like you caught that sweet spot between the North Americans falling asleep and the Europeans waking up.
This isn't a bad suggestion, and I'm feeding it back into the modteam in case anyone missed it. However, I can't promise it will prove practical to implement. There's a real issue of timeliness - for the most part, historians don't necessarily stay abreast of the latest pop history books until they reach a certain point of popularity/notoriety. Unless you happen to get somewhat lucky, I suspect most of us wouldn't have firm opinions about the newest work out there. This makes it hard to sustain as a regular feature - my own gut instinct is that the first one would go really well, as people drew on a reservoir of opinions they'd built up over the past few years, but for the next thread in a week or month, activity would decline a lot as there wouldn't be much new to add.
One thing we did do last year was have a December book gift recommendation thread, which has quite a lot of this kind of thing in it, and I expect will happen again this year. It may be worth considering a 'Summer holiday reading thread' to go along with it!
