Thursday Reading and Recommendations is intended as bookish free-for-all, for the discussion and recommendation of all books historical, or tangentially so. Suggested topics include, but are by no means limited to:
Regular participants in the Thursday threads should just keep doing what they've been doing; newcomers should take notice that this thread is meant for open discussion of history and books, not just anything you like -- we'll have a thread on Friday for that, as usual.
Hello everyone, I'm looking for books which cover postwar (i.e. 1945-2000) Britain. I'm most interested in post war Japan and Korea, and I realised that I am woefully unaware of the history postwar Britain. What are some recommendations that you have for texts on this time period in the UK?
I would like to read more about witchcraft, particularly in the early modern period. Would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks for being such a wonderful subreddit!
I would love some book recommendations on the history of spaceflight. No particular focus right now, so I'll gladly take everything: manned, unmanned, general or focused on any particular period, nation or program. Anything dealing with stuff beyond just the US and USSR would be especially appreciated, though.
Hi AskHistorians!
Thanks for being such an amazing community!
I’m looking for books on the history of math. I’m currently reading Number by Tobias Dantzig and enjoying it greatly, if that helps.
I’m open to general histories or histories of specific topics. The one thing I will stipulate is that I’m currently more interested in the historical development (with context) of mathematics and mathematical ideas than the history of mathematicians. But, I’m open to suggestions on books about mathematicians, too.
Thanks a ton,
Humble Lurker
