Documentation of La Malinche

by vexapardal

I've been absolutely fascinated by La Malinche recently - are there any documents of any kind that record her own thoughts about her circumstances, or is it all just guessing, based on what we know about her actions and how the Spanish and Aztec records depict her? (I know there's not a lot of documentation from anything that long ago, but she was so integral to that part of history... it's really a shame if there's nothing at all.)

I'm afraid nothing by Malinche has come down to us - Aztec alphabetic writing only really took off a few decades after the Mexica-Spanish war. Even our infos on her are very fragmentary, probably our best source is Diego Muñoz Camargo, and I go more into this here  (including some good sources).

In case you're interested I've also written about Aztec women pre-colonial and colonial here.   To best of my knowledge we have few to none known texts by female Aztec writers from that time, a big loss. It has a lot to do with the European priests abandoning  education of native women  early on.

Hope this helps, nonetheless!
