The classical textbook is Charles W. Ingrao's The Habsburg Monarchy, 1618-1815 (3rd edition, 2019). Ingrao, before turning to contemporary Yugoslavia, had written some other important studies of Joseph I's Austria. His edited volume State and Society in Early Modern Austria (1994) is a good starting point.

Other important studies include Karin MacHardy's War, Religion and Court Patronage in Habsburg Austria (2002), and more recent ones are Michael Hochedllinger's Austria's Wars of Emergence, 1683-1797 (2015) Anne J. Cruz and Maria Galli Stampino (eds.), Early Modern Habsburg Women (2014).
