Is this an authentic photo of an Austro-Hungarian soldier in 1917 and is it's description authentic as well?

I've seen this photo of a supposed "Gaspar (sometimes 'Caspar') Walnofer" on Reddit and various other websites. The man in the picture is always described as a 79-year-old Austro-Hungarian soldier, the oldest in the Austro-Hungarian army at the time, who fought in two prior wars in Italy in the later 1800's. I can't find anything else on him when I look him up, though, and the picture--complete with beard and pipe--seems almost to good to be true. Can anyone here verify it's authenticity and/or the authenticity of it's description? Thanks.
