If you are looking for book suggestions Kallander, George L. Salvation through Dissent: Tonghak Heterodoxy and Early Modern Korea. Honolulu: University of Hawai'i Press, 2013 is a neat resource. The first half of the book is an academic study of the Tonghak movement while the latter half is a translation into English of Tonghak primary sources.
