I’ve always loved history, and I’ve been debating on switching to a History major, but I’m not sure about the viability of getting a job with that degree.
There are jobs in that field, but it depends on what you want to do. The most obvious one is, of course, teaching. Then there is always getting a phd and going into academia, although this is very hard to do. Then there are a plethora of other jobs where a history degree could be relevant. I have known people with a master's degree in history to go into museums, libraries, archives and various consultant jobs for work. Those are the jobs someone with a history degree is most likely to get into, so you have options even if it's no job guarantee, but then again, what is these days? Then there are various combinations with other degrees that might make you an attractive person on the labor market. A degree in politics or law, for instance.
