What did the frontline in WW2 look like? Was it one continous line of trenches or were there large gaps?

Say there is a Soviet rifle corps on the eastern front with a frontage of 10 miles, would the infantry be spread equally over 10 miles or would they be in "clumps" with large gaps in between?

and what was the situation ancient medieval and Napoleonic times?

As it regards the Second World War, I have written previously on this topic using the US Army as an example. It can be reached at https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/lcpi2l/how_many_miles_of_front_would_an_infantry/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
