Here are the ground rules:
When the ethnic German population was expelled from Eastern Europe, were they mostly resettled in the Soviet Zone or the western zones? Did they have any level of choice?

When the two Germanys became active armed participants in the Cold War, did the Soviets regret shrinking East Germany so much? Or did they just see that as a done deal and not care?
Did patricians in ancient Rome practice male primogeniture? What rights to inheritance would a second or third son have?
Do you have any book recs for the political life of the late Roman Republic, say, from Sulla onward? I'm open to both academic works and historical fiction.
(I can read English, German and French well enough to tackle the subject matter. I hope that helps.)
Is Hungary named after the Huns?
This is a strange one, but I had an English teacher that always claimed that Hitler liked the smell of his farts.
Is there any evidence or reference to this being true?
Is it true that the Brazilian Emperor Dom Pedro II received 4,000 votes in Philadelphia for the 1876 US Presidential Election? I heard that he made a huge impact with his US Tour, knowing this, is it possible that he received so much votes?
I was able to find the election result, but I think they didn't count some votes from not legitimate candidates.
Any book or source recommendations for 1990s Japan, mostly social history or economic policy in the immediate post-Bubble era?
On what day was Abraham Lincoln assassinated? He was shot on April 14th but died the next morning. Do you count his assassination as when he was injured or when he died of those injuries?
In 18th century England, how would a man go about becoming an Anglican priest? Where would he go for his training and what would he have to do to become one? Also, would it be unusual during this time period for an upper-class man to choose this path?
Question about medieval longbow techniqe: did English archers from the high-to-late middle ages shoot with the arrow on the "inside" of the bow (where the arrow is between the bow and the archer), or did they shoot with the arrow on the "outside," thus placing the bow between the arrow and the archer? I've seen conflicting information on this, with competitive archers citing the former as proper technique at least in the modern context, and I've heard the latter as being most commonly depicted in art of the period.
Could someone provide a list (or a link to it) of all the philosophical and scientific classical Greek works that have survived in Arabic/other language translation only (ie. all of the Greek/Byzantine copies have been lost)? (I think they're not so numerous, but if the complete list is long, then a list of the most important ones is welcome as well).
Does anyone have a copy of "HISTORIA POLSKI 1795-1914"?
Cheers
In "Travels In Southern Abyssinia through the Country of Adal to the Kingdom of Shoa" by Charles Johnston, he noted a local referring to a killed Portuguese cook as "one radgpoot". What could be the origin/history behind such a term?
Did the Qing emperors continue to speak Manchu until the end of the empire?
Other than the Netherlands, have any other regions of the world had large noteworthy changes in coastline?
By large and noteworthy, I mean the kind visible from space if we were to of had satellites back then. So for example, turning a tiny peninsula into a large airport wouldn't count.
Also the timescale for this question is from 0BC to modern times, I really just want to know all the places humans have reclaimed land on a massive scale. Surely it's not just the Netherlands, right?
What was the hand gesture that Adolf Hitler and some high ranking Nazi's did? (not the nazi salute)
I've seen many photos and videos of Hitler and some high ranking Nazi's do a simple hand gesture that isn't like the Bellamy style salute. They raise their hand to the side of their head, almost like a British Army salute but the hand is more or less relaxed and kinda behind their head almost. Is it like their special way of waving, like how the Royal Family wave differently? If possible I'd like to know the history of the hand gesture and what it's called and why they do it. Any help as to where else to ask would be very appreciated. Thanks.
Can anyone speak to the quality of Antonia Fraser's Oliver Cromwell biography? I've been looking for a good, long one of him and it seems to fit the bill
I had a dream that seemed like it was referencing a historical event I'd learned about and forgotten years ago. Please tell me if this sounds familiar.
Essentially there was a wartime spy or saboteur working on a naval (?)/other private government compound. He was in charge of the fire safety measures and ordered them out of code (hoses too short, etc). Before starting the fire, he took a special request to remove one person in the infirmary out of the facility and take them home. This person was a bit empty between the ears, and mostly there because of family reasons. He considered them to be largely innocent and had befriended them over the event that got them into the infirmary in the first place.
I'll be looking through arson cases but please tell me if this seems familiar.
What is the context of this poster? We are currently talking with some friends about soviet posters depicting women, and this one caused some confusion.
The caption says "This is not my business", but why?
I am a rank and file Roman legionnaire of XIII legion crossing the Rubicon. Am I aware that I'm basically committing treason/coup? Or do I think I'm going to fight 'the real traitors in corrupt Senate' or something along those lines?

What is a good, readable history of the Nuremberg trials?
In the western world cities like Jerusalem, Rome, Istanbul/Constantinople, and other cities were pretty much valued by everyone. Were there any cities in Asia that were treated like that?
And yes, I know Jerusalem is technically in Asia, but I don't think countries like China, Korea, or Japan would care much about the cultural aspects of those cities at that time.
How long have public libraries been a thing? Like libraries that service the general public?
What would happen to the dead after a large ancient or medieval battle? Were the left out to rot? Buried in mass graves? Collected and sent home for family burial?
can someone tell me how many total resolutions the UN's (now defunct) commission on human rights passed? or at the very least how many they passed in their last year of operation? tx!
Could I bother you all for a quick recommended reading list on the Transmission of the Greek Classics. I am a layman intrigued by more recent "early middle" ages rhetoric and would enjoy dispelling some old "dark " age myths. (Not that I question the new description, just an eternally bored learner )
Which wars involved either Genoa, Venice or The Papal States during the XV century, and were won by any of these? Can't find any. However, after the wars in Lombardy the Treaty of Lodi was established, Wikipedia mentions "The Treaty was abrogated in 1483 when Venice and the Pope fought a war against Milan." which war is this? There is no further mention.
