As you already know, the actual song was a parody that poked fun at the grandiose commercialization of King Tut. In all honesty, I see more people in op-eds complaining about other people saying the skit was offensive than I see actual people claiming it's cultural appropriation. One humanities class in 2017 at Reed College in Oregon made a couple claims it was offensive, but that's about all the backlash I can recall. This small group of students missed the point, which was to poke fun at the elaborate, worldwide display of what would have been a relatively small and unassuming tomb in ancient Egypt.
I'd say most people were alright with the performance. Here in Chicago, radio stations played the song quite a few times. In fact, "King Tut" made #17 on the Billboard charts.
