What factors caused Liberia’s economic downfall to be so severe compared to other countries who experienced revolutions in the same period?

To my understanding, Liberia was relatively prosperous country for a century or so; being one of the only countries to remain independent during the scramble for Africa, supporting the Allies in WWII, and seemingly by all metrics was a full-fledged first world country, and much more successful than other non-colonial territories on the continent.

Of course their civil war and subsequent overthrow of the government is credited as the cause of their current situation, but it seems to have been much worse than other revolutions that happened during a similar time period (such as in Iran or Turkey).

So what was it that caused Liberia’s economy to be so especially devastated?
