I am studying history right now and especially Government of India act 1935.
It seems to include many things on which ultimate Indian constitution is based on. And Independence movements were also picking up pace acter 1930s what was the plan for British Empire in India ? Was it ultimately "pack up and leave" or more like Canadian dominion status ? Because i have heard contradictory statements that Freedom fighters were asking for full independence and the Empire was discounting a dominion status to India as a colony.
After the Simon Commission reached India in 1928, they were met with protests held by both the Congress and the Muslim League. The slogan they used was 'Go Back Simon'. In October 1929, Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India offered the status of Dominion to India in an unspecified future with the promise to hold Round Table Conferences in the future to decide on India's Constitution.
In 1930, under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru the Indian National Congress finalized their claim for Poorna Swaraj(Full-fledged Independence). They decided that 26 January 1930 would be the day that the people pledged to fight for India's independence. The British of course did not give in so easily.
On March 2 1930, Gandhi wrote a letter to Lord Irwin stating eleven different demands, the most important of which was to abolish the salt tax. He said that if the demands were not met by March 11th, the Civil Disobedience Movement would be started. Gandhi saw in salt a powerful symbol that could unite the different classes of Indian society since everyone used salt. He then undertook his famous Salt March from his ashram in Sabarmati to the coastal town of Dandi, over the next ten days, explaining to people what he meant by swaraj and to peacefully defy the British. When he reached Dandi, he broke the salt law by manufacturing salt by boiling sea water. The tax levied on the salt and the monopoly over its distribution & production were seen as the most oppressive part of the British rule.
They then started the Civil Disobedience Movement, which moved somewhat successfully. The people not only stopped co-operation with the British but also broke Colonial Laws. The movement aimed to include everyone but the rich peasant only joined in for the lowering of taxes, and the businessmen only over the control of the economy. The Congress did not support or include the demands of workers and the poor peasants as they felt that it would anger the rich peasants and businessmen. But they still participated to some extent. As violence started to spread and many of his mates had been arrested, Mahatma Gandhi called off the movement in 1931. He signed the Gandhi-Irwin pact and agreed to go to London for the Second Round Table Conference having boycotted the first. When he came back, he saw that the Congress had been declared illegal, more laws to stop political unrest and both Nehru and Gaffar had been arrested. He restarted the movement in 1932 but it had already lost its steam and the rich peasants did not join since the revenue demands hadn't been lowered.
And the rest is history...................................
Lol no, I'm kidding
From 1932 to 1935, there were problems with Dalits getting separate electorates which was reformed with reserved constituencies in the Poona Pact between Gandhi and Ambedkar
Then you have the Government of India Act passed in 1935
