Is the Spotify podcast “The History of Ancient Greece “ by Ryan Stitt any good?

I want to learn more about classical Greece and I wondered if anyone in here has listened to it and can recommend it or any other podcast about Classical Greece. I have a work where I can listen for 8 hours so any good podcasts would be appreciated

Ancient Greece Declassified is great. Its well produced and is primarily interviews with active scholars is in the field and covers a huge range of topics.

Other high quality history podcasts include

  • The History of Egypt by Dominic Perry
  • The History of China by Chris Stewart (u/cthulhushrugged)
  • Let's Talk About Myths, Baby! by Liv Albert
  • Ancient History Fan Girl by Jenny Williams and Genn McMenemy
  • Literature and History by Doug Metzger
  • History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps by Peter Adamson
  • History in the Bible by Gary Stevens
  • Against the Lore by "Zenia, Flo, Barney, and Allison"
  • The Ozymandias Project by Lexie Henning

All of these (and many more) are extremely well done, thoroughly researched, and cite good and varied sources. Most of them are produced by academics in their fields.

Well... Academically, most of The History of Ancient Greece is - technically speaking - ok. Well researched, detailed, etc. That said, we're gonna have to tread some borderline ground in terms of the AskHistorians rules here, but I think it's important to put this on a public forum.

Starting with the academic side, Stitt plagiarized large segments of older episodes. This has been confirmed by a few more people. From what I've heard, at least some of that was addressed (a few years ago he re-uploaded some episodes). If you clicked on that link to Twitter you probably bumped into the bigger issue.

Stitt is alleged to have harassed numerous women in the online Classics and History podcast community. This thread is a good starting point for details and links to more threads with more information. With all that in mind, I can hardly say his podcast is worth your time.

If the full narrative history of ancient Greece is something you really want, Casting Through Ancient Greece is good, but relatively untested in terms of an AskHistorians quality check. His material up the Persian Invasions is good.

Edited for variety
