A child in Renaissance Florence is frightened that something terrible will happen to him. Who does he believe will come to save him? (In other words, who were the 'superheroes' of the middle ages?)

Let's say a young person in late medieval/very early Renaissance Europe is experiencing a personal crisis and can't/won't approach their family about it. Who else might form their support network? Especially medieval women (of any social class) which relies on a similar premise.

There is always more to be said, and the linked answer uses mostly examples from what is today Germany. I hope someone will write about Florence specifically.
