I’ve found some old WW2 American Bombardier Flight gear in my grandparents house. I was wondering if in the Pacific Theater, it there was a B-27(not sure if that’s the exact type) that flown under the name Oooperman? The description of the plane artwork/plane insignia is a Caveman winding up for a pitch with a finned bomb instead of a baseball. I’ve found pictures on the internet about some of the planes I’ve seen in a photo album that has all the plane that were on the same base in Hawai’i, but haven’t found anything in regards to Oooperman. For reference, Rhode Island Red and The Ink Squirts were two others planes one the same base a Oooperman.
Can I ask for your grandfather's name? Or can you post photos of the things you have?
Based on what you've posted, I can't find anything about a plane by that name.
The art description you've posted sounds like the unit patch of the 820th Bombardment Squadron, if it looks like this.
The caveman was from the Alley Oop comic strip, which might be where you're getting the "Oooperman," though I'm not sure if that's the actual name of one of their planes.
I did find this article about a veteran's group for the 820th that was active in the 90s, but I can't find anything more recent about them.
The Ink Squirts and Rhode Island Red were both B-25 Mitchell medium bombers with two engines in the Pacific Theater.
The B-25s were heavily used in the Pacific because of their versatility. One of their more famous actions was the Doolittle Raid on Japan in April 18, 1942, striking the homeland at a time when the Japanese believed they were protected by the expanse of the Pacific.
There were almost ten thousand B-25s built. Finding information on any one of them can be difficult. I was unable to find your Oooperman.
