At the height of its court how many people likely lived at the Hill of Tara? Optionally what were the logistics of maintaining that population?

I know we don’t have the exact numbers but ideally I’m looking for an answer that gives generous, moderate, and conservative estimates with some of the reasoning walked through. Thanks in advance! ☺️

So, when I first saw this question yesterday, my instinctual reaction was, "nobody lived at Tara." But, as archaeology is not my primary area of research and because I am still quite prone to imposter syndrome, I figured I'd do some digging and see if anyone better qualified than myself were to come along in the mean time.

As no one has, and I have consulted a few different good sources on the topic, I can confirm that my instinctual reaction was pretty well correct: I can find no evidence, archaeological or literary that Tara was ever inhabited.

The general academic consensus, and indeed what I was taught as an undergraduate and the way I have understood the site since, is that Tara was a ceremonial or ritual site, and not one that was ever occupied.

I know sources are technically not required, though I do generally prefer to include them, and I am happy to provide what I have consulted but I'm not quite sure as to what is best to recommend, since none of them really answer your question. So I can certainly provide more archaeological or more literary references, depending on your preference. Just let me know!
