Was reading up on this event, and there’s a ton of news articles detailing it, but not a lot written by historians. I read in an article that there are basically two sides of historians arguing about the cause of this, but can’t find any evidence of it? Is it just my poor googling skills or is there a lack of historiography on this specific event? I’ve been reading through articles for a while, and still can’t find anything.
If possible, could anyone name some historians/historical debate and cite their sources?
Some decent books on the subject would be;
And here I would suggest this; do a retracing. Meaning, check the sources for the given information. Go to that source, which could be another book or an article, check the give source there as well.
This way, you can try to find the primary sources used in the books.
Also, keep in mind that it would be Greeks and Turks that would know best about what exactly happened during these days, simply because it happened where they exist.
Thus, majority of the primary sources to be referenced in related books should contain Turkish and Greek historians / writers / books. Or, the writer of the book should be able to understand Turkish and/or Greek to read the primary sources himself.
Of course, pay attention to details as both sides will attemp at subjective revisionism.
