What is the history of wet nurses in North America, especially in the early colonies, especially in places with chattel slavery?

by EdHistory101

I've come across conflicting information about the histories related to Black and African enslaved women serving as wet nurses for their enslavers' families or white women in their community. Are there particular works or historians that get into this history? Thanks so much!

There's always more to be said, particularly on the racial angle, but I do have two previous answers on the subject, this one on how poorer families handled loss of an infant's mother and this one on public breastfeeding. My major source for both is A Social History of Wet Nursing in America: From Breast to Bottle, Janet Golden (2001), which does go into more detail about the disparity between northern and southern attitudes toward Black women nursing white children.
