How do we know Caesar's death was planned by Brutus?

by SnowyChimera78

I am writing an essay on the assassination of Julius Caesar and am struggling to find sources about the conspiring of Caesar's assassination. Could someone help me find sources?

Are you looking for primary sources or secondary sources? If primary sources, then I did a quick summary of the ancient sources on Caesar's assassination a couple of months ago that may give you some pointers.

If it's modern treatments you're after, I can't give the best recommendations. But it'd be a good idea to have an acquaintance with the ancient sources anyway. The first three are the most important -- Suetonius, Plutarch, and Appian.

Hi - we as mods have approved this thread, because while this is a homework question, it is asking for clarification or resources, rather than the answer itself, which is fine according to our rules. This policy is further explained in this Rules Roundtable thread and this META Thread.

As a result, we'd also like to remind potential answerers to follow our rules on homework - please make sure that your answers focus appropriately on clarifications and detailing the resources that OP could be using.

Additionally, while users may be able to help you out with specifics relating to your question, we also have plenty of information on /r/AskHistorians on how to find and understand good sources in general.
