What good books exist out there that tackle the historicity and historical figure of Muhammad? Trying to find a good book that critically analyzes the available sources.
It's not a biography per se, but Aaron Hughes's Muslim Identities is the book I use in my Middle East 600-1300 course when discussing Islamic origins. He does a good job of telling the traditional narrative and also discussing various historical perspectives on the Prophet. He also includes lots of books recommendations at the end of each chapter!
