In 1996 Holmgard Expedition by Viking ship Aifur was able made a voyage from Sigtuna on lake Mälar in Sweden to the Black Sea port of Kherson in Ukraine in 113 days.

In 2012-2014 a joint Swedish–Russian project was trying recreate route and confirmed that it would take around 4 months. (Source: International Journal of Nautical Archaeology, 2014)
