Imagine surviving a 6 year war and the genocide of your community, returning to your old home post war
This is true, the most extreme case was in a town called Kielce on July 4, 1946 where 42 Jews were killed and 40 more were wounded, all of whom were Holocaust survivors. This pogrom was ostensibly due to a blood libel, however part of the cause was simply that a significant number (200) Jews had returned after liberation. Similar pogroms were common, however individual killings were even more common. This meant that most Jews never even attempted to reclaim their property or return to their homes because it was too dangerous. Most remained in Allied controlled displaced persons camps until they were able to move to Israel in 1948 or less frequently to Allies countries such as the UK and the US.
