People here are examples of GOOD NERDS. Yall nerd out on history and every time I come back here I learn something new. I am not a historian (I'm a layman), but my field of work frequently requires quick historical answers. You guys give me some information, and then I'm able to find very reputable sources from your info. Thanks all you historians! I freaking love you!

4 rlz. This sub just feels so civilized in a crazy time that seems to have no patience for considered thought. It's quietly but profoundly uplifting.

Love you too, OP.

I learn all kinds of stuff I didn’t even know I wanted to know about.

Also, over the last year, when some of us have been doing so much nothing that we sometimes run low on stuff to talk about with our families, this sub always provides a 'Guess what cool historical thing I learned about today.'

Same! I am a layman in history trying to collate and understand different events through different perspectives. The sub-reddit is very great at doing just that. Thank you to all the people who take their time out to provide us with neat and insightful answers ^^

The cool thing about this sub, at least for me, is that it helps us too. Many times if I answer a question, I get to piece of information that I know is fact but I have no idea what source I know it from- so I have to go digging. Sometimes I find out that I had misremembered a certain important (or unimportant!) detail, and sometimes I find something that jumps out that I didn't realize the importance of before, and it sends me down a little rabbit hole.

I guess what I'm saying is, this sub is just as valuable for those who answer questions as well as who ask them, because it makes us keep on top of stuff we may not have thought about in awhile and helps us learn more ourselves.. At least for me :)

"Scholarly" is the word that comes to my mind when I think of /r/AskHistorians.
