I think I must have attended or encountered at least a dozen conferences with this very theme. I've probably seen triple that number for graduate papers too.

Does anyone have any sense of just how long "liminality" has been in-vogue within academia (at least history)? I recall seeing the term crop up again and again since at least the mid 2010s (although I only began my undergraduate degree in 2007). I have my personal thoughts as to why, but I don't want to influence the discussion.
