In the song "How the World Works", Bo Burnham sings that "the simple narrative taught in every history class is demonstrably false and pedagogically classist". What narrative could he be referring to? Is there consensus among historians that there is a taught historical narrate that is false?

I will attempt to answer the first but not the second and simply speak to what I was not aware of when taught in US history that I had to learn on my own.

I would say the false narrative was that of the motivation and purpose of founding of the US. Specifically the idea that ‘brave intrepid colonists seeking religious freedom’ were the root cause of the founding.

The reality is that the original US colonies were founded by the Virginia Company of for profit venture of Bristol merchants searching for new markets overseas.

While the Virginia company was mentioned in school here are key/crucial elements which were not mentioned.

-all original colonists were actually employees of the Virginia company -ownership of all land in the US was owned by the Virginia company unless specifically dolled out as a parcel to colonists -when corporate colonies were converted into royal colonies all land in the US was retained by the original investors in the Virginia company -these same investors became the US ‘old money’ elite enriched by vast land holdings -this same group retained their land holdings through the revolution and to this day. The group makes up a significant portion of the powerful ruling elite that have framed every aspect of the US political and legal system as well as many presidents and countless prominent politicians.
