Did far eastern tribes that encountered Russian explorers in the 15th, 16th, or 17th century face a similar problem equivalent to when Western Europe expanded Into the America’s?
Disease?,loss of culture?, being forced to reallocate into different regions (reservations)? Thank you
The short answer for Siberia is yes. The longer answer that I wrote is linked here.
One point I would emphasize is that the spread of smallpox in particular among native Siberians was closely linked with violent conquest, slavery, dislocation, malnutrition and economic changes - much like in the Americas at the time. While virgin soil epidemics did occasionally happen, in neither case are they the full answer for why disease played the role it did among native peoples.
