I've been really into medieval and renaissance history for a while now. When doing reserch I've found that there isn't really a definitive end date to the medieval period, pretty much everyone you ask says something different, from as early as the mid 15th century to as late as the verry early 17th century. I was wondering what is the latest you could possibly go in regards to the end of the medieval period?
I defer to /u/sunagainstgold, who strongly believes the Middle Ages ended in 1523 but it depends on the place you are studying. It's not like everyone in Europe had a big meeting in the 14th century and picked a deadline for being "reborn" in the Renaissance. People living in the Middle Ages didn't think of themselves as living in the Middle Ages; they lived in the present. Other redditors may support alternate end dates. The "medieval era" itself is a retroactive construct to help us understand the past.
/u/RioAbajo has previously written a Rules Roundtable about Periodization & Regionalization and there's more material in that thread's comments section you might find helpful.
